課程概述

Course Description
This course focuses on hands-on experience of business interpreting from English into Mandarin and vice versa. Students will take turns to be speakers and interpreters in different business settings, such as negotiations, sales pitches, guided visits, formal and informal talks, and keynote speeches in business conferences. Consecutive interpreting will be the main form of practice. Note-taking principles and skills will be introduced and practiced throughout the semester.

1. Learn and practice the skills of business interpreting in both language directions.
2. Enhance awareness of potential difficulties and available strategies through role plays, presentations, group discussions, and self-reflections.
3. Customize one’s learning goals based on individual needs, strengths, and weaknesses.

Requirements:
1. Class attendance, punctuality, preparation and active class participation are required.
2. An accumulation of two absences will result in a reduction of one letter grade.
3. Being late for over 10 minutes is regarded as late arrival. Late arrival/early departure up to two times equals one absence.
4. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what occurred and what was taught in class during their absence.
5. All assignments are required to be submitted within due date. Two points will be deducted per day from the final grade for each late submission.
